The Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow the use of Temporary Voters Cards for the governorship and State Assembly elections.
The order was given by Justice Obora Egwuatu in a judgement following a suit filed by two concerned Nigerians. These were seeking to use their TVCs in the general elections due to the unavailability of the PVCs.
Justice Obiora said that the order was given based on the fact that the plaintiffs were duly registered in INEC’s database.
The court held that there was no portion of 1999 Constitution or Electoral Act that states that only PVCs are permissible. However, the law under Section 47 provides for a voters card.
However, INEC has vowed to appeal the court judgment on the use of temporary voters’ for the Governship elections.
