ATM malfunction in Irish Bank lets customers get cash for free (video)

  • An Irish bank’s computer malfunction caused a humorous error. It permitted cash withdrawals of up to N833k from ATMs by those without money.
  • People waiting in lines at ATMs can be seen in videos posted online. They are able to withdraw cash even without having any money.
  • While this unanticipated source of free money made many people happy, a discussion has begun to develop. Some people feel that the cash machines should be turned off to avoid any additional misunderstandings or unfairness.

A significant error in the Bank of Ireland’s computer system allowed a number of individuals who didn’t actually have any money to withdraw a sizable sum of money (about N833k).

According to The Sun, this occurred as a result of an issue with the bank’s app. When people noticed this, they immediately became enthusiastic about the possibility of receiving free money. Even footage of users preparing to use ATMs to withdraw cash were posted on social media.

Surprisingly, even those with limited funds in their accounts were able to send themselves up to 1000 Euros, or N833k in their currency.

However, this error didn’t sit well with the Bank of Ireland. Someone who borrowed money from the bank without having the funds to repay it has been warned that they will be held responsible.

As quoted by The Telegraph, the bank claims:

“We would like to remind customers that if they transfer or withdraw funds – including over their normal limits – this money will be debited from their account.

“While we are conscious customers may not be able to check their balance at this time, they should not withdraw or transfer funds if they are likely to become overdrawn.”

So, even though it seemed like a lucky break for some, it’s turning out to be a not-so-lucky situation.

Customers who attempted to make transfers through the bank’s banking app have reported problems, which the bank is actively working to resolve.

“We are aware that customers using our mobile app and 365Online are currently experiencing difficulties.

“We are working to fix this issue as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Several individuals can be seen gathered around an ATM in a video that Chris Rattigan tweeted. Turning off the cash machines was suggested by several people.

Social Media Reaction:

@dollDCFC said: “Why are the machines not just turned off until the glitch is sorted?”

@moono155 commented: “Anyone that thinks it’s free money is living with the fairy’s. It’s extremely easy to trace and they’ll look at their bank accounts fairly soon and see it’s on minus 1000.”
