A blind man recently revealed how he was accused of staring at a lady in a gym, humiliated and told to leave by the manager.
Toby Addison, aged 21 and a student studying psychology and counseling at Chichester University shared his story on the “Happy Hour Podcast”.
According to his video on his TikTok account, @blindtobes, he was working out at a gym as a guest of a friend when he heard a woman comment: “Oh, do you like the view?” He realized she was talking to him and thought he was staring at her.

Blind man gets thrown out of Gym for staring at a lady
He explained: “Obviously I don’t really know where I’m looking a lot of the time. I was just staring right ahead and unfortunately there was a woman doing some exercises.”
He went further to disclose what had run through his mind then. According to him, he was blind and had his cane folded up nearby. However, the woman wasn’t ready to pay heed to any reason put forth. So, she went to get the manager, who asked Addison to leave the gym.
Despite the fact that he understood why the woman would report him for making her feel uncomfortable, he still felt embarrassed and angry for her misunderstanding the situation.
In his words:
“It’s so sad that some women feel uncomfortable or anxious when in the gym because of a small percentage of people who have acted inappropriately. It’s also really sad that awareness around disabilities just isn’t good enough at the minute, and when you mix the two together you make situations like I described way more likely to occur.”
He further commented that he currently works at a gym where he has a good relationship with the staff, and has not experienced any similar incident since then.
