The Osun State Command of the NSCDC arrested 25-year-old Ayanrinde Abdulgafar, who falsified his identity as a lawyer and defrauded unwitting citizens.

According to the state Commandant, Agboola Sunday, who paraded the suspect at the Command’s headquarters in Oke Ayepe, Osogbo, on Saturday, May 27, 2023, Ayarinde had allegedly dwindled POS agents inside court buildings in a number of states while always being fully dressed as a lawyer.

The Federal High Court, Akure, and the State High Courts in Osogbo and Ilorin were key locations where Abdulgafar allegedly committed the crime.

Ayanrinde tells his story

When he was asked what led him to such a crime, Ayanrinde said he did it to spite his father who abandoned him since he was a child.

“I dropped out of the University of Ibadan (UI) from the law department in 2022 when I could no longer pay school fees.

“I decided to start practising as a fake lawyer to swindle people in courts because my father who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) decided to neglect myself and my mother after he impregnated her.

“I do this crime to spite him. I regret my action, my father is the one that destroys my life. He denied me as his son and never took responsibility for me,” he said.

Nigerian lawyer advises married women to stop begging for money from their ex

Meanwhile, a Nigerian lawyer and activist expressed her belief that it is wrong for married women to ask their ex-boyfriends for money.

She argued that doing so is disrespectful to their spouse and advised those who engage in the practice to stop immediately in order to preserve their marriage.

The lawyer also suggested that such requests could lead to temptations or strange demands from the lender and may potentially open the door to adultery.
