Fear women: Wife and relatives make life hell for husband following job loss

On a fresh episode of ‘Fear Women,’ Obi Ishiek, a Nigerian banker, shared a tragic account of how his life unraveled after losing his job.

Following the loss of his job, Obi faced hostility from his wife and her family, which ultimately forced him to leave his home. He described his life as flawless with his wife, who was also a banker.

However, when he lost his job due to his wife’s actions, she showed no compassion and welcomed four of her relatives to live with them.

You can forgive but don’t ever make her your wife again!

Narrating his experience, he said, “I was a banker married to a banker until I lost my job via downsizing. For two years I searched for another job no way, I was paid off handsomely and I lost all the money in some business investment.

Within that 2 years, three of my in-laws moved into our home in Lekki and it became hell for me, let me not go into the details of what I passed through.

My wife was paying the rent, school fees of the kids etc. It got worst when my wife was promoted and my mother-in-law moved in. She came into the dining room one evening and said it’s only food I like to eat, I told her to keep off my marriage and we had some exchange of words.

To cut it short, my wife came back and hell was lose, she said I insulted the mother. Very early next morning, I picked some few cloths and left. I left everything l owned and took off to preserve my sanity.

After I left, I squatted with a couple of friends in Lagos attending job interviews, it was very rough for me…”

Although Obi got back on his feet again, he was unwilling to take her back as his wife.

Netizens flocked to the comments to sympathize, share similar stories, and offer counsel. See some of their reactions:

@nkedon2015: “That’s why I appreciate my wife and her family. I have been out of job for 6 years now the love still strong and alive”

@NkyEzenwa: “Be a good man to your good wife when all is rosier than normal cause nothing is promised for tomorrow…. Women understand nothing is permanent… Your husband may loose all he has temporarily be there for him and don’t cause him heart aches… keep your family at arms length.”

@Oluwarotimikola: “Congratulations you bounced back. You can still forgive her and take her back, she must have learnt her lessons by now and she would honour and respect you the more. If not for anything, you can do it for the sake of your kids. Think deep about it.”

@TMinnesotta: “You can forgive but don’t ever make her your wife again! She’s not a good woman”

@gbengaAjeh: “This seem like one of those movies on irokoTV.”

@_Pgenius: “Moral lesson for me: Never allow in-laws 100% of access and information about your marriage.”

@Tee_Classiquem1: “Only few women can take responsibility of the house and still maintain civility when the husband is down, I hope he will just move on with his life and take care of his kids as he has been doing, God will provide another wife who will be there for him even during his lowest”

@hephzibah_k: “Never let your family and friends disrespect your partner especially when they are going through trying times. Anybody wey go disrespect my hubby because of financial challenge never come. Speaking from experience, una fit talk for my back o, but u nor go try am for my front”

@greeknigerian: “The wife takes all the blame… But I also blame the fact that they allowed extended family stay with them for such a long period of time. I personally cannot agree to that unless just a 3 day period. Extended families always have ways to cause problems between couples.”

@Davidimiebi: “I like your story, especially that nobody died or there was no fighting or beating anybody or children dropping out of school and all such things. However, for the sake of the christ that’s if u believe in him sha, or for the sake of the kids who need a balanced home 2 function”

@okeken53: “Omg, this is scary.Pls I don’t want 2 ever find myself in this situation. My hubby has sacrificed a lot. I pray to God 2 give me enough patronage 2 assist him bt if I earn a lot. N I ever behave like this. God biko pia pum mkpuru okwuru na anya. Dnt even allow it 2 cross my mind”

@paulkeys556: “Marriage!!! God help us. The speed at which women/wives change when things are a bit rough beats my imagination. May God help every man out there. It shall ever be well with us in life and destiny.”

@Nwokenapuoku: “The only reason this man won’t accept his wife back is because she did some other things which he is not ready to share here. He was down and looked out so her true nature manifested. Any woman that can abandon her husband in such circumstances is as well cheating on him.”
