Google is celebrating jollof rice today, even though World Jollof Day is on August 22. “Jollof rice, a quintessential West African dish simmered in reduced tomatoes, onions, peppers, and regional spices,” Google writes.

Haneefah Adam, a Nigerian-based guest artist, created the lovely live-action doodle of jollof rice; we love how, at the end, you can see the various side dishes, such as plantain and chicken, that you can eat with jollof rice. Herve Samb, a Senegalese jazz musician, also contributed to the soundtrack.

Google describes the doodle as “every year on this day, rice farmers plant and reap a bountiful harvest, and cooks across West Africa prepare to make fresh Jollof.” Also known as thieboudienne and benachin.
