Igbo lady cries bitterly after parents call off her engagement to Yoruba man

An igbo woman experienced inter-tribal marriage issues after her parents called off her engagement to a Yoruba man.

Iyke Nwabuko, one of the Igbo lady’s male acquaintances, shared her narrative, which demonstrated how serious the occurrence in Lagos state was.

He said via Twitter that the Igbo girl sobbed bitterly to him on the phone after her parents called off the marriage arrangements with the man she had been eagerly waiting for.

Nwabuko claimed that her family forbade the Yoruba man from participating in the introductory rites they had previously agreed upon.

He claimed that the upset woman sobbed about the news as though a loved one died in a tragic accident.

The lady cried bitterly

He wrote: “This Lagos violence is something o, an igbo girl was crying on phone that her parents are saying they don’t want to see the Yoruba guy that was supposed to come visiting, for the traditional knocking ceremony.”

“Babe has cried her eyes out. wahala de o! Babe de cry like person wey lose person for accident o.”

Social media users rushed to the comment section and expressed their thoughts in support of her parents.

Andrew Dumebi Juliette: “I support he should go and look for his fellow yoruba and marry and leave her alone …”

@uti_no_mas: “So this is what igbos have been going through for decades. I just got a firsthand dosage of it and I don’t blame any igbo family that wants their children to marry only their people.”

@Adaugonwanne: “Honestly last week, I would have condemned their actions, but right now I think she should listen to her parents”.
