I’m the first woman in my hometown to be made a chief – Chimamanda, encourages equal recognition

Award-winning writer, Chimamanda Adichie, disclosed that she is the first woman to receive a chieftaincy title in her hometown.

The world-renowned writer was conferred a chieftaincy title by her hometown on December 30.

Hailing from Abba in Anambra State, Chimamanda was honoured as ‘Odeluwa Abba’ which means ‘the one who writes for the world.’

The event had dignitaries attended, including the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo.

I am the first woman…

The novelist, in appreciation, took to her Instagram account on Wednesday and said the honour meant so much to her and should pave way for recognising other women’s achievements.

“I am the first woman in my hometown to be made a chief, and it makes me happy to know that more women will follow,” she said in hopes that “little girls with their hearts full of dreams who feel encouraged.”

She further engaged custodians of culture, urging them to ensure both genders are equally recognised.

“Culture does not make people, people make culture. Cultures thrive when they best serve and reflect the people. Ours must become a culture that celebrates achievement, whether it comes from a man or a woman.” She added.

35-year-old woman sets record as the first black person to fly to space

Mae Carol Jemison, a woman from Alabama who graduated at age 35, has set the record as the first African-American woman to go into space.

She became an astronaut for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and worked in the Space Center.

After setting her record achievement, Mae Carol Jemison, now 66, became an inspiration for many academics worldwide.
