Please help me: Nigerian lecturer who gave birth to 7 babies at once, needs ₦19m for hospital bill

A Nigerian lecturer received a hospital bill of 19 million Naira after giving birth to septuplets (seven babies).

The woman identified as Mrs. Ngozi Uzodike, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. Ngozi, who works at the Department of Business Administration, delivered the babies at Obijackson Women and Children Hospital, Okija.

The successful delivery brought joy, but sorrow crept in as the hospital charged the family a whooping bill of 19 million Naira.

Why is the family financially struggling?

The family has been unable to raise the fund. This is because the lecturer has not been paid any salary for the last two years.

Her husband, Mr. Celestine Uzodike, confirmed to the press that, indeed, the wife has not earned any salary. This is even after her promotion from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer II.

This financial issue has made it impossible for them to pay the bill or even care for the babies. Out of the seven, only six babies have survived, as one of the girls died.

He said, “The babies came out prematurely at 26th week gestation period and the hospital said they will need to be placed under intensive care unit and each of them will cost N3million. One of them has died, remaining six babies, that is why they billed us like that.”

The couple is calling on the Federal Government to come to their aid. They are also urging the government to pay the two years salary arrears owed to the lecturer.

“All I want is for philanthropists both in Anambra State and Nigeria at large to come to our aid in other to offset the hospital bill,” the wife said.
