New Naira wahala: Nigerians war fiercely in banks to exchange old notes

Videos have gone viral of Nigerians fighting to enter banking halls to obtain the new naira notes.

Recall that in a bid to curb corruption associated with election seasons, new naira notes were created. Initially, the old notes were to be swapped on or before 31st January, 2023.

When the Central Bank of Nigeria proved adamant about moving the date, panic and tension rose across the nation. Although the date has been moved to 10th February 2023, the tension seems to be getting worse.

Church rejects old notes as tithes and offering

In a similar story, the earlier issued date by the CBN Governor for the expiration of the old naira notes as legal tender made churches reject the old notes.

Tribuneonlineng reported that some churches in Edo state refused the old naira notes as offering and tithes on Sunday.

This is probably because they were afraid they would not meet the first deadline of the old notes.
