New naira notes confusion: Church rejects old notes as tithes and offering

The earlier issued date by the CBN Governor for the expiration of the old naira notes as legal tender made churches reject the old notes.

Tribuneonlineng reported that some churches in Edo state refused the old naira notes as offering and tithes on Sunday.

This is probably because they were afraid they would not meet the first deadline of the old notes.

Churches had previously informed their members that they would not accept the old notes on the 30th of January.

Separation among members

An unnamed church in Benin was reported to have grouped their members based on the naira note they wanted to pay.

This caused confusion in the church because members paying the new naira notes were separated from those paying with old naira notes.

While this church separated members, the Evidence of Christ church totally rejected the old notes.

Some other churches like the All Souls Anglican Church, Living Faith Church, all in Benin City, and Corporate Worship Church, Campus II, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi accepted both the old and new Notes for their tithes and offerings.

Pastor slams church members for giving low denominations

Meanwhile, an unidentified Igbo pastor was angry at his church members because of the Naira denominations they paid for offering.

The pastor was angrily scolding his members for paying N100 and N20 as an offering.

According to him, the church buys 20 litres of fuel for church service but members paid such a ridiculously low amount.
