Nigerian man who sold sachet water as a child earns best graduating student award, achieves PhD in 2 Years from US university with 4.93 GPA

Sharing his story on Twitter, Tunde recounted his humble beginnings grinding pepper and selling water to make ends meet. Despite his challenging background, he excelled in his studies, earning 8 distinction-level As out of 9 subjects in his West African Senior Secondary School Certificate exam.

Tunde’s determination led him to score an impressive 298 out of 400 points on his Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, securing his admission to the University of Lagos. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, boasting a remarkable 4.93 GPA.

His hard work and dedication were recognized when he was awarded the title of best-graduating student for the 2009/2010 academic year. Following his undergraduate success, Tunde took the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), a critical step towards pursuing his dreams at MIT.

Tunde Alawode’s journey from selling water to achieving a MIT Ph.D. serves as an inspiring testament to his resilience and brilliance.

Tunde faced a dual challenge – working a full-time job and undergoing National Youth Service (NYSC) – all while preparing for an important exam. Despite these hurdles and his weekly trips between Lagos and Abuja, Tunde remarkably scored 333 out of 340 in the test.

His achievements didn’t stop there. Tunde’s academic pursuits led him to earn a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 2012, followed by another master’s degree in Material Science and Engineering the next year.

Tunde’s determination remained unshaken. He embarked on a PhD journey at MIT in 2015 and achieved his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering in just two years, showcasing impressive dedication and earning a good grade.

Meanwhile, a pretty Nigerian lady has won 12 awards at the recently concluded convocation ceremony of her school.

The young lady named Ogunyemi Deborah studied Crop Protection and Environmental Biology at the University of Ibadan.

Miss Deborah’s ethics of diligence and focus saw her finish with a first-class degree at Nigeria’s premier university.
