Nigerian man drills village students after they failed 2023 UTME

  • Rather than waiting for the government to fix the issue, a Nigerian engineer and his team decided to help his village youth prepare to rewrite the failed 2023 UTME.
  • 70% of his village’s kids failed miserably in the JAMB UTME of 2023, and the handful that did pass did so sparingly. 
  • The techie has given some insight into how he is preparing his village’s youth using a novel method to assure that there would be 90% success in the UTME in 2024.

On social media, a Nigerian techie named Alex Onyia received praise for the academic programme he established for kids in his town after they failed 2023 UTME.

Only a couple of his village’s students narrowly but failed 2023 UTME, according to Alex, who stated this on X.

CEO of Educare Alex claimed that rather of waiting for the government, he and his team used a new strategy to address the UTME issue.

The students participate in rigorous morning and evening drills and are required to take CBT once a month due to failed 2023 UTME.

Alex explained: “We took the challenge upon ourselves for it not to repeat itself again. Every youngster in my village right now is on an intensive morning and evening drilling for next year’s Jamb and they undertake CBT once monthly with large pool of 16 years past questions across different subjects.”

Failed 2023 UTME exams results in initiative 

Alex said he noticed they were not computer literate. “One common thing we noticed is that many of the youngsters are alien to computers and can’t even use a mouse nor keyboards. How were they planning to succeed in jamb when they could had probably be using a computer for the first time on Jamb day?”

The expert went on to mention that the goal for the UTME in 2024 is a success rate of 90% and spoke about scholarships for top candidates.

“It’s an eye opener and our mission is for all of them to score above 250. We will be paying for all their jamb exam fees and are also offering full scholarship to everyone that scores 300 and above.”

Netizens were impressed at his effort to help students who failed 2023 UTME exams.

They were certain that those who failed 2023 UTME would do better in the next year.

Meanwhile, a former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, reacted to the controversy surrounding the Anambra student JAMB UTME score, involving Mmesoma Ejikeme and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Ezekwesili emphasized the need for a thorough forensic investigation to uncover the undisclosed details of the situation.

Taking to her Twitter handle @obyezeks on Monday, July 3, she revealed that she had reached out to the JAMB registrar, Prof Ishaq Olarewaju Oloyede, regarding the matter.

JAMB reveals new policy for Direct Entry and UTME candidates

Meanwhile,the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new policy adjustment for Direct Entry (DE) applicants seeking admission to Nigerian universities.

According to JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Direct Entry (DE) candidates would take the same examination as UTME candidates going forward.

He revealed that the choice was made so that Direct Entry applicants could defend the use of their A-level certificates.
