A South African lawyer, Sbonakaliso Mpisi has been detained after a four-month inquiry into the unfortunate passing of his girlfriend.

His late lover, Mahlako Malebo Rabalao, a 26-year-old mother of a child and an IT specialist, was reported missing on March 7, 2023. At 9 p.m. on the same day, her burned-out Mercedes Benz was discovered in Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa.

Rabalao’s boyfriend emerged as the main suspect after they conducted an investigation and found that she had been murdered and set on fire inside her car. The reason, though, is yet unknown.

The Randburg Magistrate’s Court issued an arrest warrant, and on Friday, the suspect was located and taken into custody in KwaZulu-Natal.

In a statement confirming the arrest on Monday, July 31, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said that the suspect, Rabalao’s boyfriend, is currently charged with murder.

The investigative team’s work has been praised by Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, the provincial police commissioner of Gauteng.

“As the police, we will continue to prioritise cases where women and children are the victims. I am grateful with the manner in which the detectives handled this investigation and that the suspect is brought to book for the family to find closure,” said Mawela.
