What do you stand for? – Seun Kuti drags awardees for accepting national honour

Seun Kuti, a controversial Nigerian Afrobeats singer, has expressed his criticism towards the individuals who were included in the list of national award winners for 2023.

Notable figures such as Davido, AY Makun, Kunle Afolayan, Victor Osimhen, Terry Waya, and over 300 other renowned Nigerians have been honoured with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) title, as announced by the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs on Sunday, May 28.

Seun Kuti, in response to the national honours list, suggested that many of the celebrities and personalities who had previously criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari were displaying hypocrisy by accepting the award.
