E-money: Net worth, Biography, Source of income, Controversies

A birthday gift might not shoot E-money’s net worth into the top-ten list of the richest Nigerians, but it would have put a smile on his face on February 18 when he clocked 42.

However, the worst kind of man to shop for is the man who has everything. No matter how good a gift-giver you think you are, buying for the man who has it all is a FIFA World Cup-level event. The man who has everything needs nothing.

Don’t bother getting him his favourite team jersey. He’s a fan of Chelsea, but he might still feel offended, thinking you’re using him to practice the art of mockery by giving him the club’s home and away kits.

The man who has everything wants nothing. He won’t tell you verbally or through body language to buy him boxers and singlets or shoes and socks.

A joke thought it had found the answer to what to give the seen-it-all father, caring husband, and cooler-than-your brother-in-law. Someone like E-money.

Question: What do you give the man who has everything?

Answer: Penicillin.

This quick joke may be hilarious to most people but is rather offensive to someone who really has got everything. Penicillin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. So, what are you insinuating?

For the man who has everything like E-money, we suggest you buy him a copy of Guides to Effective Prayer, written by the meanest grudge bearer of all time, Olusegun Obasanjo!

E-money might own a lot of things, but there’s no way he has this book.

We present E-money’s net worth and biography.

How old is E-money?

Emeka Okonkwo, better known as E-money, is 42. He was born on February 18th, 1981, in Ajegunle, Lagos. AJ City, as the town is fondly called, is more like a ghetto, but it means “a place where riches dwell” in Yoruba. That’s an antithesis, but then the place produced notable names like Samson Siasia, Taribo West, Daddy Showkey, Odion Ighalo, and Emmanuel Amuneke.

E-Money, who’s from Amaputu in Uli in Ihiala local government area in Anambra State, got his nickname from his public displays of affluence. But shouldn’t he have been nicknamed PDA because E-money means electronic money? Oh, PDA has already been taken by the acts of physical intimacy in the view of others, aka Public Displays of Affection!

Arabic Money or Arab Money (but never A-money) was an alias that didn’t stick. We reckon the Arabs didn’t find it complimentary!

E-money is the younger brother of the musician Kcee.

E-money: Education

We don’t know the names of his primary and secondary schools, but one can assume he got both levels of education in Lagos.

We also know little about his university education, but he was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Management and Corporate Governance from the European-American University. If it were a caption, it would have fittingly read ‘E-money bags degree through e-learning’!

Controversies

E-money may not be suffering from Sudden Wealth Syndrome (SWS), but his displays of affluence suggest otherwise. One symptom of SWS is taking decisions one might not have otherwise made. This indiscretion has made tongues wag that E-money’s wealth might be ill-gotten through e-fraud or drugs.

His brother Kcee showed theirs is not a brotherhood of Cain and Abel by jumping to E-money’s defence.

“My brother is not into drugs or anything illegal. We are from a Christian home, and we are very careful with our lifestyle and what we do. Our only weakness is that we show off. We like the good life. My brother is a hard worker,” he said.

“For about 17 years, people have been saying that we do drugs or 419, but why have we never been caught? Why haven’t we made a mistake? Why hasn’t someone come to expose us? When we had issues with some of our team members that left recently, many people were waiting to hear that we were into illegality, but they did not say that.

“My brother is a hard worker who is into clearing and forwarding, oil business, real estate, etc. He started from scratch. He used to be my manager when I was with Presh, but he left to start his own business. It is just the grace of God.

“When I was playing football, I was doing very well. I started with football, and the first time I travelled out of this country was through football. I never saw music coming, and it was something I did by the side.

“My brother and I laugh whenever people make a statement like that. He does nothing negative. If not, people would have come out to expose it. I am sorry, but no one can make us change our lifestyle because it is in our DNA,” he said.

“What DNA has joined together…,” E-money and Kcee

Is misuse and abuse of privileges also in E-money’s DNA?

On May 12th 2020, E-money was interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force following his reported abuse and misuse of the police escorts assigned to him. He incurred the wrath of the IGP after it was observed that he was treating the police escorts like domestic staff.

The interrogation was done following the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, at its headquarters annexe in Lagos. IGP’s monitoring department grilled him.

“E-Money visited the Force HQ annexe today and met with police detectives and was grilled for about six hours. He came along with two others and responded to many questions. Somebody took his bail, and he could leave and return on Wednesday for more questioning,” a source told the press.

E-money’s Wife

It will be quite unfair to say he was living from hand to mouth when he met Juliet in 2003 during Julius Agwu’s video shoot. However, it’s close to the truth.

“When we met, I was a young man who was struggling to make ends meet, and she was equally very young. She was in her sophomore year at the university. Because she was my first girlfriend and the first woman I ever loved, I remained faithful to her,” he said.

“I was looking for a God-fearing lady who wasn’t excessively concerned with material possessions and who I could plan a future with. Fortunately, I found those qualities in her. Even though I lived in Ajegunle with my brothers, she visited me frequently. I remember she fell into a gutter in a flooded street on one occasion.”

That must have been embarrassing. The thought must have lingered and held him back from proposing to her.

Is E-money Married
E-money and ‘J-money’

“I was only waiting for the right time to ask her to marry me, but I knew where the relationship was headed from the outset. I had met other ladies in the past, but they all lacked the qualities I mentioned earlier,” he said.

By saying, “she was my first girlfriend” and “I had met other ladies in the past”, E-money may have revealed a secret inadvertently, but we shall let it slide. He, however, proposed to her in a grand style.

“I presented her with a car as an engagement gift,” he said.

Asking her why she accepted his proposal is an exercise in futility. But the question was still asked.

“My family and I were on the verge of relocating to the United Kingdom, but I was happy that I was already in a relationship with him. I felt it was a good reason to always visit Nigeria, given that I had fallen in love with him and his personality.

“On one occasion, I was cash-strapped, and he willingly parted with the last N1,000 he had on him. I was completely taken aback by that act of generosity,” she said.

“When we started dating, my friends were surprised that I sidestepped all the rich guys in Lekki, where I was a resident for a man who lived in Ajegunle, but I was not bothered. I looked forward to getting a good job upon my graduation from the university. He didn’t even have enough money to take us back to Lagos after our traditional marriage.”

He now has money even to take her to the moon and back, thanks to a massive turnaround in fortune.

“We were on our way to Lagos when I received a phone call informing me I had been awarded a $2m contract, and that is how our lives changed forever,” he said.

Fairy tales cannot have a better ending. They got married in 2007, and they are blessed with three boys.
