Italy-based Nigerian lady kept 68 Million Naira in Nigerian bank, comes back to find mere 3,000 naira remaining

  • Glory Omokaro, a Nigerian woman who lived in Italy for 13 years, put N68 million into her Nigerian bank account while she was in Europe.
  • She went to Italy in 2005 and didn’t open a bank account in Nigeria until 2013 when she visited.
  • However, when she came back to Nigeria in May 2023, she found out there was only N3,000 left in her account.

A Nigerian-Italian immigrant, Glory Omokaro toiled arduously to save N68 million before she moved to Nigeria in 2005.

She placed the funds in a bank account in Nigeria. She had been saving money, but now she has none left.

Glory initially went to Nigeria in 2013 and opened a bank account there. She then started saving.

Glory opened a bank account in the Edo state of Benin after spending time with her family in Italy.

Her intention was to use the money she saved in the account when she returned to Nigeria.

Nevertheless, after having saved N68 million, when she came back in May 2023, she discovered that there was only N3000 in the account.

Her ATM card lost expired in 2021. She requested assistance with the renewal from the bank manager, but they told her to go there by herself. She wasn’t able to travel to Nigeria because of Covid19.

There were barely N3000 in the account when she returned in May 2023.

She requested a bank statement, and upon receiving one, they discovered that money had been removed from the account in numerous tiny sums.

Meanwhile, according to the new Central Bank of Nigeria’s order, Nigerian banks increase interest rate on savings deposits.

In response to the recent surge in Money Policy Rates (MPR) by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian banks took steps to elevate their deposit interest rates.

The CBN’s latest MPR meeting marked the sixth successive increment in the past year, pushing the rate to 18.75% from the previous 18.50%.
