Women can help Nigeria defeat hunger – Abdulsalami Ladigbolu

  • Abdulsalami Ladigbolu has shared how women can be of importance to achieving ‘Zero hunger’ in Nigeria.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency on food security in the country on Thursday, July 13.

This decision was reported to have been necessary because of the insecurity in the northeast, northwest, and southeast leading to an inflation in food prices.

Adding to this, the decision to also remove the fuel subsidy in the country has pushed many Nigerians to lack access to food in extension causing hunger in the country.

Reacting to this menace, experts have suggested that one of the best ways to curb this was to prioritize agriculture.

A scientist and a senior fellow of the United Kingdom Association of Business Executives (BRAVE, LOYAL, and TRUTH with The Extended Mind), Prince Abdulsalami Ladigbolu, while speaking with Legit.ng stressed the importance of women playing an important role in agriculture in the country.

How women can help in ‘Zero hunger’ – Ladigbolu

According to him, Nigerian women can help the country achieve ‘Zero hunger’, “The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) estimates that women comprise 43% of the global agricultural workforce. This number goes up to over 60% in the least developed countries. Despite their key role in agricultural development, women have less access to technologies, information, resources, and finance for their agriculture activities across the globe,” he said.

Abdulsalami Ladigbolu mentioned that many women have been empowered in agriculture by revealed UNESCO REF, under its Strategic Intervention Programme -ALPHA (SIP-ALPHA), after partnering with some organizations.

He also revealed that way before President Tinubu declared the emergency, an agricultural initiative have been arranged to help curb hunger in the country.

According to Legit, he stated that women would be trained on their productivity, efficiency, and income-generating potential to reduce poverty in society, he added that the women would be working under the polices officer’s wife’s association and other national intelligence agencies.

Lagbodu concluded that the details of how it would work are still confidential in order not to fall victim to the hoodlums who are against food security in Nigeria.

Angry citizens in Benin protest petrol scarcity, causes lockdown

Meanwhile, protesters in Benin expressed their wrath by shutting down every location in the city over petrol scarcity.

A video of the protest uploaded by one of the protesters, @Stevedgr8t1 on Monday morning showed how angry Nigerian youths drove off the soldiers who came to handle the situation.

The protesters in the video yelled at the soldiers who came to control the situation; the youths affirmed that they blocked the road, refused to listen to anybody adding that they do not want petrol again.
