24-year old Congolese invents wooden treadmill

  • 24-year old Congolese student invented a wooden treadmill.
  • This was to help meet exercise needs due to a lack of electricity in his area of residence.
  • The wooden treadmill was his submission for his defence as a student of electromechanics.

At his workshop in Goma, Désiré Kabengela, a young Congolese invents a wooden treadmill after college.

The first treadmill of its kind in Africa that complies with international standards was recently created by this 24-year-old.

“This is a place where I am always busy using or making our mechanical treadmills. This is our workshop,” said Desire Kabengela,” said Désiré.

This wooden treadmill equipment is developed to satisfy the demands and requirements of any athlete, whether they run or walk.

It is also designed for amateur athletes and can help them increase their stamina, combat cardiovascular disease, lower their risk of high blood pressure, among many other benefits.

Sporting industry professionals have already given this device their approval. Those who have tried it out have commented favourably on how well it performs.

”As a coach, I have just experienced this work, it is really good. If we had a responsible government, we should support such initiatives. On the improvement plan, it should work on the noises, because when you increase your speed we have noise that comes out,” said Benefit Karwichi Emmanuel, a coach.

Additionally, all individuals who find it difficult to visit gyms benefit from this equipment. It can be deployed anywhere, including homes and workplaces. This applies to the house in Goma.

“You know that we are in Goma, we always have a lack of electricity, with this carpet you can use it anytime even if you do not have electricity,” said Marcelin Mutabazi, another user.

Wherever there is flat terrain, the equipment can be employed. For those living without electricity in remote locations, its invention is useful.

The speed variation is influenced by the user’s speed, energy level, and weight.

Also worth mentioning is that this idea was created by a young Congolese student at the Higher Institute of Applied Techniques ISTA Goma who is currently majoring in electromechanics.

His primary undertaking for his third-year public defence was the wooden treadmill.
